Snowmobile  

Many come here with skiing or snowboarding on their mind, 
but let's not forget about the snowmobiling.  

Whether you bring your own snowmobiles or rent one from one of the many Mammoth Lakes companies, you will be sure to have hours upon hours of fun.

Inyo National Forest maintains over 100 miles of groomed snowmobile trails which will take you through forests, over hills, inside of bowls, and across flat meadows.
Trails are marked with orange diamonds which are designated snowmobile routes only and they are well marked with maps at each intersection.  
You can pick up a map from the visitors center or the ranger station.

For guided trips, please contact one of the businesses listed below.  They all offer hourly, half-day, and daily tours as well as dinner rides and 
special tours of areas such as the Bodie Ghost Town.
They even have smaller snowmobiles for the little ones!

Trails:

Smokey Bear Flats
          This is one of the largest snow play areas for both snowmobiling, dog sledding, and inner tubing.  The staging area is right off of HWY 395 North of Mammoth Lakes by only a few miles.  From there the trails to explore are abundant.  DJ's Snowmobile Rentals can be found in this location as well.  

        Bald Mountain
          This route is twenty four miles round trip of beginner to advanced riding.  It is at an elevation 
         of  9104 feet and is marked by an orange diamond with an 'A' or 'D'.  This trail is the longest, and    
         highest trail in Mammoth Lakes and goes to the top of the mountain.

          Lookout Mt. Loop
          At an elevation of 7800 ft, this trail completely encircles the mountain in twelve miles.  This trail is  
         marked by orange diamonds with an 'L' and is a beginner to intermediate trail.

          Sawmill Trail
        This trail is an eleven mile round trip route which is the main way to go from the Town of 
           Mammoth Lakes to Smokey Bear Flats.  At an elevation of 8800 ft, it is marked by orange diamonds
           with an 'A' or 'B'.  This trail is known for it's exceptionally deep snowpack.

Shady Rest Park
        Just north of the visitors center, on Hwy 203 in Mammoth Lakes, there are numerous trails to explore.  The trails are marked by orange diamonds with an 'A'.  This route will take you through forests to Lookout Mountain.  Close to these trails at the staging area, be aware that there are dog walkers, cross country skiers, and snowshoers who enjoy this area.

Vista Loop
          This is a very popular route that begins at Smokey Bear Flats and is considered the best trail for those beginners who are experiencing snowmobiling for the first time.   It is eleven miles round trip and the most popular route in Mammoth Lakes.  This trail winds through forest at the edge of the 'Long Valley Caldera'.
